WCFF Day Campaign and Competition 2020

Globally, nearly 100% of adults have tooth decay and oral disease affects 3.9 billion people worldwide, with untreated tooth decay impacting almost half of the world’s population. This year’s World Cavity-Free Future Day will focus on tooth decay as a disease across the life course, with each age group and generation facing different experiences.

Today’s the day! It’s our fifth annual World Cavity-Free Future Day, and this year we are raising awareness of tooth decay as a disease across the life course, with each age group and generation facing different experiences.

In the lead-up to World Cavity-Free Future Day, we launched our ‘Smiles Across Generations’ video competition campaign in which we asked entrants to submit a 30-second video to help us raise awareness on how we can achieve a cavity-free future.

Since launching the competition in July 2020, we received 145 entries from 13 different countries!

Well done, and thank you to everyone for getting behind our competition – we had fun watching all of the brilliant entries. We selected three winners: one for the most ‘Likes’, one for the most ‘Shares’ and one as the ‘Judge’s Choice’, with the latter being decided by an independent panel of five international judges, who voted on the video that was felt to best capture the spirit of the competition’s aim: We’re looking for real conversations between people of any age discussing how they look after their teeth.

Congratulations to our winners…

Most ‘Likes’:  Pranjali Vilas Deulkar (India)

Most ‘Shares’: Lahari M (India)

Judge’s Choice: Lindy Sank (Australia)

We hope that you continue to share the videos widely to help spread the importance of a cavity-free future for all, and hope that you’ll join with us in promoting World Cavity-Free Future Day today! For free resources, click here.

This year’s WCFFDay 2020 Campaign

Globally, nearly 100% of adults have tooth decay and oral disease affects 3.9 billion people worldwide, with untreated tooth decay impacting almost half of the world’s population. This year’s World Cavity-Free Future Day will focus on tooth decay as a disease across the life course, with each age group and generation facing different experiences.

We believe that having casual conversations among adults, children and seniors about dental care is a great place to start, so this year we launched a competition, ‘Smiles Across Generations.’

‘Smiles Across Generations’ is a video competition campaign in which we asked entrants to submit a 30-second video to help us raise awareness on how we can achieve a cavity-free future, with the winners being announced on World Cavity-Free Future Day.

We were looking for real conversations between people of any age discussing how they look after their teeth. Entries could be in any language but must be 30 seconds or less (and 100MB max).

We were NOT looking for high-quality, professional videos – videos taken on a mobile phone or tablet are perfect! Click below to view all of the entries we received.

Submission dates

The competition opened on 1st July 2020 and closed on 30th September 2020.

Review the full terms and conditions here.

How were winners be selected, and what was the prize? The competition had three categories: ‘Most Likes’, ‘Most Shares’ and ‘Judge’s Choice’ with the prize of an iPad (10.2″ Retina display) for each category. Winners will be announced on 14th October 2020.

UPDATE: Due to the competition deadline extension date, although we will not accept entries after 30th September, we will consider the number of ‘Likes’ and ‘Shares’ until 10th October (23:59 BST). All entries have been uploaded to our official YouTube channel and Twitter.
